Erik Olson. Space.
Earth, 2011. Oil on canvas, 72 x 84 inches.
Moon, 2011. Oil on panel, 20 x 16 inches.
Venus, 2011. Oil on panel, 48 x 36 inches.
Love Space, 2011. Oil on panel, 48 x 36 inches.
i saw this and thought ‘ah sweet, stuff about space, i guess that can go in my sketchbook as a nice bit of artist research’ then saw that it said ‘i fucking love space’ and i like it even more.

for this, i cut out pictures of the items on the list. i was originally going to make a collage, but instead, i scanned the cut-out items into illustrator and live traced them. i’m going to try and make a double page spread out of this, somehow…

i went to the Yayoi Kusama exhibition at the Tate Modern last week. it showed her early works as well as work right up until the present day (infinity room, pictured). i really enjoyed looking at her collages (her earlier work) as well as the transition to her newer work- there was lots of repetition, polka dots (for which she is most famous?) and you can clearly see how living in a psychiatric institution has influenced her artwork. really, really recommend going to see it if you get the chance :)

Went to a talk today by Turner Duckworth. It was really interesting, as well as learning about the new visual identity they created for Coca-Cola, we got to see other work that their studio has produced. I hadn’t realised they’d created the Waitrose own-brand packaging, and have long been a fan of this! So yeah, super exciting and pretty inspirational to see how working in the design industry isn’t ALL scary and can be fun!
